Disclosed is a technique for the production of polyvinyl ethers having reactive silicon-containing functional groups or atomic groups at the end. Polyvinyl ethers represented by the general formula (VII) are produced by reacting a vinyl ether represented by the general formula (III) with a silane represented by the general formula (IV) in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a polynuclear ruthenium carbonyl complex composed of two to four ruthenium atoms and carbonyl groups coordinated to the ruthenium atoms. In the general formulae, R<1>, R<2>, and R<3> are each hydrogen or hydrocarbyl having one to eight carbon atoms; R<4> is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or silyl; and X<1>, X<2>, and X<3> are each hydrogen, halogeno, amino, alkyl, alkoxy, thioalkyl, alkylamino, aryl, arylamino, aralkyl, vinyl, or a heterocyclic group.
|
