<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing system, information processing apparatus and information processing method, as well as program and recording medium that can prevent duplicate purchase of a license necessary for content use. <P>SOLUTION: A client 1 requests and acquires a license from a license server 4, and uses content according to the license. The license server 4 provides the license for content use. The client 1 determines whether the license requested from the license server is a duplicate of a license already held by the client 1 to notify the user of the client 1 about the duplication of the license requested by the client 1 with a license already held by the client 1 in response to a corresponding determination result.
