<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor by which an image compression rate can be improved while maintaining image quality. <P>SOLUTION: When extending a compression code of an LL component that is converted from a multi-level to a binary for each hierarchy, sizes of binary images in extended hierarchies are made to match with each other by a magnification means 42, and pixel values of the binary images which become the same sizes in the respective hierarchies are then added by an addition means 45. Thus, each binary image is highly compressed in comparison with each multi-level image, so that the compression rate can be improved and the multi-level image of the higher image quality than that of the binary image can be restored, thereby improving the image compression rate while maintaining the image quality. Further, the binary image produced only from the LL component is processed, thereby enabling high-speed processing in decoding processing for a portion which does not need LH, HL, and HH component processing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
