PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonograph capable of improving the operability of puncture by displaying the puncture direction limit of a biopsy needle. SOLUTION: This ultrasonograph is provided with a bloodstream position detection means for detecting a bloodstream position on an ultrasonographic image; a needle position detection means for detecting the needle tip position of the biopsy needle on the ultrasonographic image; and a comparing means for comparing the bloodstream position from the bloodstream position detection means with the needle tip position from the needle position detection means. When the comparing means determines the approach of the bloodstream position and needle tip position within a prescribed distance, a stop signal is outputted to a biopsy needle advancing/retreating part provided with a means for impeding further advance of the biopsy needle upon receiving the stop signal.
