PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new display element which excels in basic performance such as visibility, rewritability, and preservability of a display image, excels in bendability, thin type property, and portability as well, and permits colorization display, touch up property, etc. SOLUTION: The color developing layers formed by depositing an organic dye-liquid matrix layer disposed directly or through another layer on a support and a cover layer disposed directly or through another layer on the color developing layer in this order can be made to render a change in color tones by inducing flocculation and redispersion of organic dye particulates in a laser scanning section by irradiation with a laser. Further, the color developing element is an erasable type to enable the color tone of the color developing element changed in the color tone to reversibly restore the color tones of the dye particulates prior to the irradiation with the laser by physical stirring from outside or heating.
