<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the time for a printer to be out of service with a run-out-of ink error by providing a BJ printer with a printing function with a printable print mode on such an occurrence. <P>SOLUTION: The printer is provided with a run-out-of ink detection means, a notifying means for notifying the run-out-of ink to an information processing unit which transmits print data, and a detection means for detecting the color of ink for use from the print data. Accordingly, creating print data by the information processing unit without using the color of ink which runs out during a print job process, is performed if run out of ink occurs in the course of printing by notifying it to the information processing unit. Further, even the printer which runs out a certain color of ink can perform printing by identifying the color of ink to be used in print data employing only other colors of ink. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
