<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element in which the number of optical parts is reduced by increasing the degree of integration in one optical element and optical polarization condition is surely controlled and to provide an optical head device using the optical element. <P>SOLUTION: A composite optical element 10 is a rectangular parallelepiped prism having a first transparent material 11 in which a partial reflection surface 15 and a partial reflection surface 17 are mutually parallel, a second material 12 which is joined to the surface 15 of the first material 11 and is a transparent right angle triangular column, and a third material 13 which is joined to the surface 17 of the material 11 and is a transparent right angle triangular column. In the element 10, a first 1/2 wavelength plate 16 is adhered and fixed between the surface 15 and the material 12, and a second 1/2 wavelength plate 18 is adhered and fixed between the surface 17 and the material 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
