PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device for a vehicle capable of obtaining natural steering feeling by a driver for a long period of time without changing the reaction characteristic in the right and left direction of the rotation due to the deterioration of the elastic element. SOLUTION: In the steering device for the vehicle, a steering operation system having a steering wheel 2 and a steered system having an electric motor 5 are mechanically separated. The reaction characteristic has a compression spring 24 in the steering operation system. A spring reaction force generation mechanism 4a is provided so that the support distance change movement of the compression spring 24 when the steering shaft 12 is rotated in the right direction from the neutral position, and the support distance change movement of the compression spring 24 when the steering shaft 12 is rotated in the left direction from the neutral position, are the same support distance change movement with respect to the support distance of the compression spring 24 when the steering shaft 12 connected to the steering wheel 2 is in the neutral position.
