PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a thin film magnetic head excellent in a recording characteristic in a high-frequency band because of a short magnetic path length, also having a small resistance value of a thin film coil. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head is provided with a lower part magnetic pole layer 108, an upper part magnetic pole layer 112, a recording gap layer, and a thin film coil 114. The thin film magnetic head is further provided with a coupling part 131 which is arranged at a position apart from an air bearing face 130 and couples the lower magnetic pole layer 108 to the upper magnetic pole layer 112. The coupling part 131 has an end face 132 faced to the air bearing face 130 side, and this end face 132 includes a curved surface projecting to the air bearing face 130 side. A part of the thin film coil 114 arranged between the end face 132 and the air bearing face 130 has the narrowest width in the thin film coil 114 at the position on the shortest imaginary line connecting between the end face 132 and the air bearing face 130, and is increased in width as leaving from the imaginary line.
