PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time duration until the inside air of a cabin is conditioned to a comfortable temperature just after riding. SOLUTION: This air conditioner comprises a compressor of a refrigeration cycle driven by selected one of an engine for vehicle travel and an electric motor, and an evaporator for cooling blow off air in the cabin by circulating by driving of the compressor. While the occupant gets out and the engine stops, when the occupant is predicted to get in within a predetermined time, pre driving control for driving the compressor with the electric motor is performed. Thus, the compressor is previously driven by the pre driving control before the occupant gets in. Therefore, the temperature of the evaporator previously decreases at a getting-in time, so that the target air quantity level of a blower can be set maximum immediately just after the getting in and sufficiently cooled air can be made to blow to inside the cabin. As a result, the time duration until the inside air of the cabin is conditioned to the comfortable temperature just after getting in can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
