The stand for the holding of especially a bicycle with its front wheel off the ground (15) has a vertically installed guide including an upwards and downwards movable mechanism (2) with a first (4) and a second (6) arm with guide components (10,12) corresponding to the guide, and rotatably interconnected by the adjacent ends in such a way that they can be brought from a position in which they form an angle of less than 90 degrees into a position in which they form a larger angle or align with each other. The first arm has a gripping hook, the jaw of which interacts with a mating component fitted on the arm to grip round the front wheel of the bicycle. An independent claim is included for a parking space which accommodates several stands in a row.
