<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit which can accelerate the output of an image at an output unit side not corresponding to a multi-valued image without necessity of forming a binary image at the output unit side not corresponding to the multi-valued image. <P>SOLUTION: When image data are compression coded, an LL component divided to sub-band by a discrete wavelet transformation at each hierarchy is transformed from the multi-valued image into the binary image and is stored (binarizing means 34, binary image storage means 35), and a desired hierarchical LL component of the LL component transformed to the stored binary image is allowed to be acquired (image acquirement allowing means 36). Thus, when the desired hierarchical LL component is requested to be transmitted from the output unit 4 not corresponding to the multi-valued image, the desired hierarchical LL component transformed to the binary image is acquired in the output unit 4.
