PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a multiple type air conditioner capable of specifying recovery refrigerant amount individually for each of a plurality of outdoor units. SOLUTION: A main outdoor unit control part designates outdoor slave units or outdoor master units in order one by one, closes the first open/close valve and opens the second open/close valve of the designated outdoor unit (ST3), closes the first open/close valve and second open/close valve of the outdoor units not designated (ST4), operates the compressor of the designated outdoor unit for an allocated time calculated based on the overall length of a refrigerant tube and the quantity of compressors (ST7), and closes the second open/close valve of the designated outdoor unit after the allocated time is elapsed (ST9) to recover the refrigerant.
