PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed rod joined with an electrode for a discharge lamp and sealed with glass, having a thermal expansion coefficient of the same level as a conventional Kovar, and more excellent than that in resistivity and thermal conductivity, without defects such as a crack. SOLUTION: The sealed rod 4 for the discharge lamp sealed in an end part of a glass bulb 2 with one end connected to the electrode 3 and the other to an outer lead wire 6 has tungsten and/or molybdenum as a main ingredient and contains one or two or more kinds out of a group consisting of nickel, iron, copper, and cobalt by 0.01 to 10% in weight ratio. It is preferable to contain phosphorus by 0.5 to 10% in weight ratio against the content of one or two or more kinds out of a group consisting of nickel, iron, copper and cobalt.
