PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus having an optimum structure satisfying conditions that cooling the lamp of the light source and the reflective light valve in a projector apparatus is necessary and that the reflective light valve requires dust-preventing treatment on the image forming face. SOLUTION: In the image display apparatus, the cooling means for the light source and the cooling means for the reflective light valve are connected through a duct. A blowing means is disposed to blow air directing from the reflective light valve side where the temperature to be controlled is low to the light source side where the temperature to be controlled is high so that one cooling means functions as two cooling elements. The image display apparatus is configured in such a manner that a first space where optical paths of light entering and exiting the reflective light valve are formed is separated from a second space where the passage of cooling air to cool the reflective light valve is formed.
