The device (10) has a piezo-translator (2) arranged in a housing that changes its length as a drive or switching device when a control voltage is applied. The housing is made in several parts (3-5) for compensation of thermal length changes of the piezo-translator and the housing parts consist of materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a switching device for valves, especially hydraulic pilot valves.
