PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of weaving bars in the transient rotation period after the starting stage of a loom. SOLUTION: The method for starting a loom having a motor, whose primary coil is connected to A.C. power supply, is provided. The method for starting a loom comprises supplying power to make the output torque of the driving motor to be a second torque value larger than a first output torque during the gunning stage, and, before performing power supply for the first torque, performing power supply to make the output torque of the driving motor to be a third output torque value during the first stage, wherein the first output torque is the output torque of the driving motor in normally rotating state of the loom, the third output torque is less than the second torque value but capable of rotating, the gunning stage starts after the occurrence of the starting signal and ends at a predetermined point before a point at which the rotation of the loom reaches a normal revolution, the first stage starts from the start of occurrence of the starting signal and ends at the start of gunning period and the power supply for the first torque and the second torque and for the driving motor comprises supplying A.C. power from an A.C. power supplying circuit to the primary coil.
