PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based adhesive composition containing tannin, imparting excellent water resistance and durability to an adherend, and not releasing formaldehyde in an amount exceeding the amount of the formaldehyde included in the wood itself of the adherend; and to provide a wood panel having excellent water resistance and durability, and not releasing the formaldehyde in the amount exceeding the amount of the formaldehyde included in the wood itself. SOLUTION: The water-based adhesive composition contains an aqueous solution of the tannin extracted from the wood, a polyfunctional epoxy compound and a tertiary amine.
