METHOD FOR CREATING A COLORED, ENGRAVED MARK ON A BRICK

The invention provides a method for applying a multi-colored, long lasting engraved mark on the surface of brick (10) or other similar ceramic objects. Masks (40) are used to separate coloring agents (16) during the process such that variegated designs are created. A groove (14) may be placed in the brick (10) over the area to be marked to provide a substratum for coloring agent (16). The coloring agent (16) is placed in the groove (14) and subjected to heating such that it melts and fuses with the brick (10) surface bearing the groove (14). The coloring agent (16) is comprised of colored glass frit particles. A laser (12) is optimally used for providing both th egrooving and heating steps.
