<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treatment of defects in a cartilage with high reliability by inducing stable repair and regeneration of the cartilage, and preventing superficial cartilage defects or lesions from advancing to serious osteoarthritis. <P>SOLUTION: A composition for the treatment or repair of defects or lesions in the cartilage includes a biodegradable matrix or a matrix forming substance used to cover a region of defect or lesion in the cartilage. The matrix or the matrix forming substance contains a proliferation factor at a concentration sufficient to stimulate proliferation of repair cells in the matrix and in the region of defect or lesion, and a transforming factor at a concentration sufficient to transform repair cells into cartilage cells for producing cartilage tissue when the transforming factor is combined with a delivery system and succeedingly delivered to the proliferated repair cells in the matrix and defect. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
