OPTICAL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which reduces optical loss and in particular which is suitably applicable to a thermooptic optical switch when a reinforcing block for connection of an optical fiber is mounted in a waveguide type optical device having a heater for controlling a refractive index.

SOLUTION: An optical device 1 has a heater 6 which controls the refractive index and is disposed on an optical waveguide layer 2 consisting of a core 4 and a cladding 3. A reinforcing block 5 for connection of the optical fiber is mounted on a surface of the optical waveguide layer 2 where the heater 6 is disposed by adhesion via an adhesive layer 7 which has a refractive index lower than that of the cladding 3 of the optical waveguide layer 2.
