PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an operation response of a vehicle automatically operable with respect to a control device for an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: The control device for the automatic transmission of the vehicle traveling while keeping a specific distance to a preceding vehicle is constituted to have a target inter-vehicle distance setting means 7 setting a target inter-vehicle distance between the driver's own vehicle and the preceding vehicle and a gear ratio control range changing means 9 changing a lower limit of a gear ratio control range of the automatic transmission 21 in accordance with the target inter-vehicle distance set by the target inter-vehicle distance setting means 7.
