PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in performance even when a mode is transited to a specific low power consumption mode for the purpose of low power consumption in sequential access or the like. SOLUTION: A CPU sets an HDD to the specific low power consumption mode (active idle mode) when a command from a host is interrupted exceeding a time T1 (S6). In this mode period, the CPU makes a voice coil motor supply a current necessary for positioning continuously a head at a target track specified by a command executed immediately before. Also, the CPU stops closed loop control conforming to servo information in the mode period and cuts off a power source to a signal processing circuit. When the next command is given from the host before the active idle mode period elapses time T2, the CPU releases the active idle mode and performs seek operation in which the head is shifted to the target track specified by the next command (S1).
