PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drawing recognition method capable of reducing the oversight of a character area, reducing the erroneous recognition of symbols and characters, minimizing a manual grouping processing and recognizing a drawing, and device therefor. SOLUTION: In the drawing recognition method, after the entire drawing is recognized as an image, the recognition processing of the character and the symbol is locally performed again on the basis of the position of the recognized character and symbol. A drawing recognition device is provided with a recognized character information storage part for recognizing the entire drawing and storing the character, a recognized symbol piping line information storage part for storing the symbol, and a character local storage part and a symbol piping line local recognition processing part for locally performing the recognition processing again on the basis of the position of the stored character and symbol.
