PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc rich primer-coated steel having improved and excellent iron rust resistance by the interaction of a zinc rich primer with a steel material. SOLUTION: The zinc rich primer-coated steel having excellent iron rust generation resistance is obtained by coating the surface of a steel freed from scales with a zinc rich primer. The steel has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.001 to 0.20% C,≤0.60% Si, 0.1 to 2.0% Mn,≤0.030% P,≤0.01% S, 0.004 to 0.08% Al and 0.1 to 1.0% Ni, or further comprising one or more kinds of metals selected from 0.2 to 0.5% Cu, 0.2 to 0.5% Cr and 0.1 to 0.5% Mo, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
