PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling the particle diameters of gold fine particles in an angstrom order by using a simple liquid phase method. SOLUTION: In the method of controlling the particle diameters of gold fine particles, a gold ion-containing aqueous solution and an organic solvent solution as a phase transfer agent are mixed and stirred;, as a protective agent, an organic solvent solution of alkane thiol shown by the general inequality of C<SB>n</SB>H<SB>2n+1</SB>SH (4≤n≤20) and insoluble in water is added thereto, and stirring is performed; and a reducing agent is further added, and stirring is performed, in the meanwhile till the reduction reaction is completed, the reduction reaction rate is fixedly held.
