PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin having very high solubility in hot water and, in particular, suitable as an elutable component for various molded articles. SOLUTION: The hot-water-soluble polyester composition has 6-20 mol% of a sulfoisophthalic acid metal salt copolymerized and contains 1-30 wt% of at least one particle selected from the group consisting of a carbonate salt, a bicarbonate salt, an acetate salt and a citrate salt of an alkali metal, where the average particle size thereof is at least 5 nm and at most 1μm.
