PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water flow detector completely shutting off the feed to a secondary side pipe when a valve element of the water flow detector is opened at non-fire. SOLUTION: This water flow detector is so formed that the inside of the water flow detector 3 is partitioned into a primary side I and the secondary side II by a partition 8, the partition 8 is provided with a communication port 9, the secondary side II of the communication port 9 is equipped with the valve element 10 freely sliding along the inner wall of a valve box, a control chamber 15 formed of the valve element 10 and the valve box inner wall is communicated with the primary side I and the secondary side II, a solenoid valve 21 closing the conduction is provided between the control chamber 15 and the secondary side II, an orifice 20 having the diameter smaller than the bore of a valve seat of the solenoid valve 21 and a check valve 19 preventing the counterflow to the primary side I are provided between the primary side I and the control chamber 15, and a water flow detection means is provided. When there is no fire signal from a fire detector 5 in operating a sprinkler head 4, the solenoid valve is closed and the valve element 10 is seated on the valve seat to hold the closed state of the solenoid valve 21.
