A remote switch (102) for connecting to and providing access to a TDM network. A switch (104) resident of a non-TDM network implements control of various components in order to effectuate telecommunications in the non-TDM network. An access gateway (106a-c) at a remote location connects to the TDM network. The switch (104) accesses the TDM network through the access gateway (106a-c) via the connection.
