The burner for a solid fluent fuel has a rotary grill (10) rotating around an axis (18) and having a chamber (12) to receive the fuel (20) arranged around the periphery of the grill surface. The ratio of the width of the chamber to the diameter of the grill is between 1 to twenty and one to four. The outer circumference of the grill is between twenty and fifty times the medium size of the fuel granules. Claims include a method of combusting solid fuel using the burner.
