A drawer storage appliance such as a refrigerator comprises a closure being a fixed horizontal lid (1 in Fig 1(a)) and a container being an open-topped drawer (2 in 1(a)) which is movable horizontally with respect to the lid. A skirt 3 depends from the lid to support a first sealing loop 4, the skirt 3 and the lid seal 4 being shaped to correspond to and cooperate with a second sealing loop 5 which is located in the upper surface of the peripheral rim of the drawer. The sealing loops 4, 5 are moved into an out of mutual alignment by the relative horizontal movement of the lid and the drawer. At least one of the sealing loops 4, 5 includes magnetic means 8, 17 for attracting the other of the sealing loops 4, 5 to maintain the seal when the sealing loops 4, 5 are mutually aligned. |
