Closing device, especially for a pivoting body part (5) of a motor vehicle, comprises a spring element (11) having an axially movable piston rod (19) as a first construction group within a cylinder (21) as a second construction group and exerting a closing force on the body part via a cable device attached to the body part. The spring element has a deviating roller (25) on its axially movable construction group for guiding the cable device whose end (29) is fixed to the other construction group. Preferred Features: A stop (35) acting in the insertion direction of the piston rod is provided between the two construction groups of the spring element. The piston rod has a connecting head (23) on which the deviating roller is fixed.
