A positive engagement clutch has a torque input side 36 and a torque output side 10. The clutch comprises a torque input member 114 arranged on the torque input side 36, a torque output member 32 arranged on the torque output side 10, first engagement members 116, second engagement members 120, and an actuator 104. The torque input member 114 and the torque output member 32 are arranged concentrically to rotate on a common axis 94. One of the torque input member 114 and the torque output member 32 carries the first engagement members 116, and the other of the torque input member 114 and the torque output member 32 carries the second engagement members 120. The first engagement members 116 are radially movable by the actuator 104 between a projecting and a retracted position, and the second engagement members 120 projecting radially into a gap 126 between the torque input member 114 and the torque output member 32. The first and second engagement members 116 and 120 engage with each other, when the first engagement members 116 are in the projecting position, to progressively engage the torque input and output members 114 and 32 to allow the transmission of torque to the torque output side 10. The first and second engagement members 116 and 120 are disengaged from each other, when the first engagement members 116 are in the retracted position, to prevent the transmission of torque to the torque output side 10. <IMAGE>
