PROCESS FOR PRODUCING 1-(n-HALOPHENYL)ETHANOL

PURPOSE: Provides is a process for producing 1-(n-halophenyl)ethanol used for medicines and agricultural chemicals in a high yield by continuously hydrogenating n'-haloacetophenone in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst, which is friendly to environment and has a high productivity. CONSTITUTION: The 1-(n-halophenyl)ethanol represented by the formula 1 is produced by continuously hydrogenating the n'-haloacetophenone represented by the formula 2 in the presence of the heterogeneous catalyst at a temperature of 0-200deg.C under a pressure of 0.1-1500psig, wherein n is 2, 3, or 4. The heterogeneous catalyst is an inorganic oxide containing copper(Cu), palladium(Pd), or a metal mixture thereof.
