[Also in Division H1] A glass article, such as an electric light bulb, has a light diffusing coating of an alkalistabilised colloidal silica, a metal oxide-coated acid-stablished colloidal silica, an alkalistabilised colloidal aluminosilica or an alkalistabilised lithium-containing colloidal silica, of average ultimate particle size not more than 30 millimicrons. Where the article is an electric light bulb the coating may be applied to the interior or exterior of the bulb. The sols may be applied by spraying to the glass surfaces at a temperature near or above 100‹C. The thickness of the coating may be such that there is from 0.01 to 0.4 grams per 13 square inches of glass surface. |
