PURPOSE: A navigation system and its operation method are provided to display present position and traveling rate of the present vehicle by generating an arrow and grasping the present position of a user. CONSTITUTION: A map database(210) stores a digital map. A road guide information input part(220) provides information about a route accessing to a proceeding road at a crossway where a vehicle enters. A position information input part(200) provides the position of the vehicle. A central processing part(230) generates a simplified shape of the crossway and an arrow guiding the route by receiving map data from the map database and route information from the road guide information input part and the position information of the vehicle from the position information input part, and generates an arrow guiding the route and calculates a traveling rate of the vehicle. And a screen display part(240) displays the traveling rate.
