发明名称 Aliphatic olefins and manufacture thereof
摘要 Mono-olefins within the C12 to C15 range, prepared by interpolymerizing propylene with a C6 to C11 olefin which is a straight-chain olefin or mixture or a polypropylene or propylene-ethylene interpolymer, are condensed with phenol to give alkyl phenols which may be converted to polyvalent metal phenates for adding to hydrocarbon lubricating oils as stabilizing or anti-ring sticking agents.ALSO:Mono-olefins within the C12 to C15 range are prepared by interpolymerizing, in the presence of a phosphoric acid catalyst at approximately 375-500 DEG F., 1 part by liquid volume of propylene with from approximately 0.2-10 parts by liquid volume of a C6 to C11 olefin which is a straight chain olefin or mixture, or a polypropylene or propylene-ethylene inter-polymer, and separating an acyclic olefin fraction boiling substantially from 325-520 DEG F. The products are resistant to decomposition by hydrofluoric acid under alkylation conditions and may be used for alkylating benzene and the manufacture of detergents by sulphonation of the phenyl alkanes produced. Suitable C6 to C11 olefins are n-hexene, heptene, octene, nonene or decene-1 or fractions of cracked paraffin wax of Fischer-Tropsch products. Phosphoric acid on a support such as kieselguhr or active carbon is preferably employed at 400-460 DEG F. and 200-600 p.s.i. with a space velocity of .02-.2 vols. liquid propylene/vol./hr., steam also being present. Fractionation of the product, preferably under vacuum, gives a 325-520 DEG F. fraction or a C12 cut of 330-420 DEG F. and a C15 cut of 420-510 DEG F. may be obtained. For production of monophenyl alkanes, a fraction of I.B.P. 360-370 DEG F. and F.B.P. 500-520 DEG F. is preferred. Light polymers in the C6-C11 range may be recycled to the polymerizer to increase the yield of C12-C15. A mixture of propylene and ethylene may be passed down through the catalyst with previously formed interpolymers of C11 and below and the products fractionated. The C12 to C15 olefins may be hydrogenated and converted to alkyl sulphonates by chlorsulphonation. They may be alkylated with isobutene, converted to alcohols as by hydrochlorination and hydrolysis of the resulting alkyl chloride, or condensed with phenol to give alkyl phenols which may be converted to polyvalent metal phenates for addition to lubricating oils as stabilizing or anti-ring sticking agents. Monophenyl alkanes produced from C12 to C15 cuts or from blends of C12 and C15 cuts give effective sulphonate detergents.
