The invention relates to the field of water preparation. A method for neutralizing alkaline water consists of acidulation thereof with sulphuric acid, being obtained directly in the process of acidulation by contact of original water with granulated sulphur with particles size between 1 and 5 mm in the presence of bacteria of kind of Thiobacillus and the degree of water acidulation is adjusted by air supply. A method for water treatment comprises stages of clarification of original water by filtration thereof through grainy filtering material and acidulation of clarified water. As grainy filtering material granulated sulphur is used, said stages of clarification and acidulation of water are carried out jointly by contact of original water with granulated sulphur with particles size between 1 and 5 mm in the presence of bacteria of kind Thiobacillus, and acidulation degree is adjusted by air, which is in addition supplied into granulated sulphur. Use of the invention will allow to increase chemical and ecological safety of neutralization process.
