PURPOSE: A method for controlling an external speaker of a mobile terminal is provided to prevent an external speaker from abruptly operating to cause a problem of hearing of a user while the user is using a mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: An operation starts(401) and if an event requesting generation of a loud sound that may cause a user discomfort occurs(402), sensing sensors are operated(403). It is determined whether the mobile terminal is near a human body(404). If the mobile terminal is not near the human body, a normal signal sound is generated(405). If the mobile terminal is close to the human body, a substitute event that may not cause the user discomfort is generated(406).
