METHOD OF ELECTRIC ARC HEATING AND MELTING MATERIALS

The present invention can be used in thermal-electric plants designed for heating and melting metallic or nonmetallic lump and powder materials as well as for producing metals, metal alloys, and ferroalloys. The proposed method of electric arc heating and melting materials consists in supplying gas trough the hollow electrodes, exciting electric arc between the electrodes and the material, regulating the arc discharge current and the distance between the end surface of each electrode and the material, and displacing the electrodes relative to each other and the material. The distance between the end surface of the electrode and the material exceeds the maximal dimension of the material particles by 15.5 à 20.7 times.
