PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input method excellent in operability by using the number of operation keys and auxiliary keys provided for an existing cellular phone. SOLUTION: In this input method, Kana characters 'A, Ka, Sa, Ta, NA, ...' for respective tiers constituting a Japanese alphabet are allocated to a plurality of the respective operation keys; a key capable of selecting a Kana character in each raw constituting the Japanese alphabet (for instance, 'Ka, Ki, Ku, Ke or Ko' in the case of the raw of Ka) is assigned; selection information is displayed on a screen; and thereby the Kana character can correctly be inputted by two operations. The alphabet can be inputted by a similar method. Changeover between a large Kana character 'Yo' and a small Kana character 'Yo', or between an upper-case letter 'A' and a lower-case letter 'a' can be carried out by depressing the key for selecting each raw twice.
