PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for speaker distance detection, using a microphone array, which can accurately detect the distance to a speaker even for a small-sized terminal such as a mobile telephone and a speech input/output device using the method. SOLUTION: The speaker distance detecting device uses the microphone array comprising a plurality of microphones; and a reference microphone is predetermined among the plurality of microphones, differences between the signal level of the reference microphone and signal levels of other microphones are detected based upon the correlation among signals of the respective microphones, and the distance to the speaker is found based upon the detected differences in signal level.
