PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-compressing method, image-compressing device, program, and recording media capable of suitably compressing color document images with high compression efficiency. SOLUTION: Each pixel of collar document images is first changed into an index to be applied, in response to its color value, and color information 103 including the number of pixels in each color which is indexed and index color image 104 by a subtractive color processing unit 102. The color values in relation to the index of the maximum number of pixels are then made, such as for example, the background color of the color document images by a color information sorting unit 105, etc. Compression ranking is then determined by a compression ranking determining unit 113, and partial binary images are generated in each index and the binary images are compressed, based on compression order by a binary image generating and compressing unit 109.
