PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent disease damage to cultivated plants, by utilizing short-wavelength ultraviolet rays which have strong sterilizing activity, without causing irradiation trouble with the plants, after solving such problems that use of agricultural chemicals or agronomic procedures which are conventionally used for preventing the disease damage to the cultivated plants is difficult to produce sufficient effects, when restriction by the Agricultural Chemical Control Act and other technical reasons exists in the use of the chemicals or the procedures, and application of the short-wavelength ultraviolet rays which are already known that the rays have the strong sterilizing activity on bacteria and fungi and are utilized for sterilization of indoor spaces, water, air, etc., on the contrary, causes growth trouble with bodies of plants, including the cultivated plants, which are on the way of growing. SOLUTION: A method for preventing the disease damage, by decreasing density of the bacteria and the fungi, and avoiding the irradiation trouble comprises irradiating the short-wavelength ultraviolet rays under conditions in which growth stages of the cultivated plants, irradiation times of the short-wavelength ultraviolet rays, and irradiation days thereof are variously combined with each other.
