The laundry weight determination method uses a measuring circuit coupled to a displacement sensor (9), for measuring the lowering of the washing liquid container (4) enclosing the rotary washing drum (5) due to the weight of the laundry (6) contained in the washing drum. The highest position of the washing liquid container during a given program section of a washing program is detected and stored in a memory, for use as the reference position value for the next washing program.
