PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a biaxially oriented polyimide film excellent in hue quality. SOLUTION: The process for producing the biaxially oriented polyimide film comprises steps of (1) reacting an aromatic diamine component with an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component in an organic polar solvent to prepare a polyamic acid solution; (2) reacting the obtained polyamic acid solution with a dehydrating agent to form a gel film in which at least part of the polyamic acid is converted to polyisoimide; (3) separating the gel film from a support, if necessary, washing the film with an organic polar solvent, and then biaxially stretching the film; and (4) if necessary, washing the obtained biaxially obtained gel film with an organic polar solvent, and then subjecting the film to heat treatment to form a biaxially oriented film.
