PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a servo track writing method for a magnetic disk of a vertical recording system capable of correctly writing a servo track and a magnetic disk drive using the vertical recording system capable of correctly positioning a magnetic head at the time of reading/writing data. SOLUTION: A yaw angleθof the magnetic head is calculated at the innermost side (H1) and at the outermost side (H0) in an area for writing the servo track of the magnetic disk 2. When codes (positive/negative) of both the yaw angles are different, a dummy zone DZ where the servo track is not written at a place where the yaw anglesθare close to zero is provided. When the yaw anglesθare within a positive range with the dummy zone as a boundary, a direction going from an inner side of the magnetic disk 2 toward the outer side is selected in a sending direction of the magnetic head in servo track writing, and when the yaw anglesθare within a negative range, the opposite direction is selected.
