PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified cross-section polyester fiber slight in fluffs with quality unevennesses including fineness unevenness and dyeability unevenness, capable of affording silky-toned fabrics presenting coarse squeaky feeling and excellent in puffiness, flexibility and lightweight feeling. SOLUTION: The modified cross-section polyester fiber is such that the cross-sectional shape of the single filament consists of a triangular portion(A) and a projection(B) extending from the apex of the triangular portion(A), there is a 3-15% hollow in the triangular portion(A), and L1/L2 is 0.7-3.0 and h2/h1 is 3.0-10.0( wherein, L1 is the length of the projection; L2 is the distance between the junction point of the triangular portion and the projection and the side of the triangular portion opposite to the junction point; h1 is the width of the projection; and h2 is the length of the above opposite side ). The polyester composing the fiber is obtained by polycondensation in the presence of a catalyst comprising a reaction product from a specific titanium compound and a phosphorus compound.
