PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steadying device for a compensating rope of an elevator to prevent the desired tension from not being applied to a compensating rope, for example, in case of occurrence of an earthquake. SOLUTION: The one end of the compensating rope 3 is connected to a cage, and the other end is connected to a counterweight to be hanged in an elevator shaft. The middle part of the compensating rope 3 is belted around an outer peripheral part of the compensating sheave 1. The compensating sheave 1 is rotatably journaled on a compensating frame 2.
