The mechanism has a housing, a first shaft for connection to a drive shaft and a parallel second shaft. One shaft is coupled to a friction coupling coaxially arranged on it that couples one shaft to the other. The coupling is displaced by means an electric motor whose axle is parallel to the shafts. A spur wheel gear mechanism is arranged between the first and second shafts with a hollow intermediate shaft(s) in which the motor is arranged. The mechanism has a housing (12), a first shaft (15) for connection to a drive shaft and a second shaft (37) parallel to the first shaft. One shaft is coupled to a friction coupling (17) coaxially arranged on the shaft that couples one shaft to the other. Displacement of the coupling takes place by means of an electric motor (57) whose axle is parallel to the shafts and a spur wheel gear mechanism is arranged between the first and second shafts with at least one hollow intermediate shaft (33) in which the motor is arranged.
